"Jumbo in a Jar"

When the Barnum Building at Tufts University burned to the ground in 1975, it took with it the taxidermied remains of Barnum's favorite elephant, Jumbo. The sports department was able to step in and save Jumbo's ashes for future generations of Tuftonians. In this documentary, Sports Director Emiretus Rocky Carzo talks about Jumbo's life and legacy.

Great film!

I felt so bad for Jumbo, but I am happy to know he was loved both in life and in the afterlife :)

Blue collar elephant

Dang straight -- not one of those fancy-pants white-collar banker elephants! Oh, how I hate them!

wonderful

What a wonderful and fascinating short.

Hooray for Jumbo!

Great short! A "quest for truth" that sheds light on a fascinating Tufts tradition and a bizarre twist of history worthy of Barnum himself. Love the interview with Rocky and the great description of Jumbo as a good-hearted "blue collar elephant". A really interesting story, very well done.

(i'm kidding with the previous thing)

Rocky's interview is one of the best parts -- I don't want anyone to think I was makin' fun of him. I just like the idea of elephants having people jobs.

3 very interesting minutes

This is a very good short! Quite interesting, and totally worth the time to watch. A lot of information is packed into that 3 minutes as well. Well done!

Great Short!

I liked the use of the different formats (animation, etc.) to get the story across. You did a great job in telling a sad story in an entertaining and informative way. Now that I realize my comment sounds like a 7th grade book report... I will just say that I had a lot of fun watching this and you did a great job.

Jumbo in a Jar

Jarred Ashes

.... When I go, I want my ashes put in a peanut jar.

Reminiscent of the French New Wave

This documentary deftly blends realism with animation and archival footage. It reminded me of the "reality fictions" of mid-1970's Jean-luc Godard, mixed with a little mid-sixties verite thrown in for flavor. Well done!

jumbo in a jar

Very charming short about one of America's (animal) icons. Cute animation.

This is a wonderful short

This is a wonderful short about college tradition told fondly and well.

A very interesting short, its

A very interesting short, its nice to hear of human relationships with wild at heart animals, very sweet

Wow!

This is fascinating. I love how it shifts from serious and sad to funny to creepy and then back to serious and touching. And the animation is great!

Great film!

Really great film! It's sad that Jumbo burned up, but I'm glad that they've still got him around.

I know! Poor Jumbo. He got

I know! Poor Jumbo. He got hit by a train, they sold his heart to Cornell and then somebody stole it, and then finally he gets burned up and stuffed in a jar. At least Tufts gives him some love.
