What if you woke up tomorrow trapped in the body of an insect? You might be horrified or disgusted - but Judith Klausner would probably be thrilled. Judith thinks that humans have more in common with the insect world than most people would imagine. Judith creates sculptures that hybridize humans and bugs, creating creatures that are scary, strange and beautiful.

This video does a very nice job of showcasing both Judith's work and her inspirations.

I like how she

I like how she re-contextualizes otherwise discarded bodies of otherwise ignored creatures into something that's both compelling and provocative. There's this stark morbidity to it which makes it feel dark and forbidden, but in reality is just part of life as we know it viewed in a different light.

re: I like how she

Well said.

bees

having been stung previously, i was a bit closed minded as to how art made from a childhood nemesis would turn out, but it was pretty neat. also, i'm curious as to what was being made out of what appeared to be nyquils that was in the background.

You noticed right! She's

You noticed right! She's working with pain pills and other medications as a new material right now. You'll have to wait and see how those turn out. . . possibly in a future video!

pain and bugs

Is it related to the bug stuff? That seems like it could be really interesting. Maybe like pills stuck together in a beehive pattern?

PS

Also, I am impressed by how PROFESSIONAL and BEAUTIFUL it looks. Bravo!

delightful

This was a treat to watch! I like how effortlessly you jump right into the artist's point of view and share it with the audience in a way that is accessible and interesting.

Beauty in fragility

Beautiful shots, capturing the fragility of Judith's art. Love it.

Insanity and genius

I was skeptical at first, with the seemingly crazed artist at the beginning.

HOWEVER, as the video went on, we saw a method to the alleged madness when more time is spent with the artist. One should classify that 'madness' as passion and love for their craft.

Arthro+anthro = new species

What if? This is an intriguing subject and the creator of this video has, in a very short amount of time, presented the work of an 'arthro+anthro artist' -- an artist who blends insect parts with human form. The composition is strong, storyline compelling. Sound and light need ramping up.

I thought the narrative of both the art itself and the thought process behind it was wonderfully woven together. The video itself was beautifully shot and well paced.

This is a really intriguing story and well told. I really like the way the video presents the threads of the narrative first, and then we discover how the sculptures are a culmination of Judith's thinking process.

Judith Klausner: Artist video

I never would have thought to use insect parts as the building blocks of art. This video is very illuminating!
