Bus 63 is a short, poetic documentary which follows the filmmaker's emotional journey over her first vacation away from her 4 year old son. Beginning with a scene from the every day life of a mother ("Mommy, I don’t want that for breakfast! Mommy there's not enough jam on my bread!"), the film then transitions into the joy and freedom she feels as she travels to France alone. Through a series of bus rides on bus 63, the bus the filmmaker took when she studied abroad in Paris 19 years prior, she experiences a mix of nostalgia for a different time in her life, sheer bliss at her freedom, and the realization of how much her life has changed since her earlier time in the city.
Well done
I would have liked a little more focus. Son? Paris? Then and now? Wasn't sure where the center of the piece lay.
